The University of Bedfordshire is going from strength to strength. It leapt a massive 18 places in The Times Good University Guide 2010 making it the highest climbing institution in the Guide. It has also risen 13 places in The Independent's Complete University Guide 2010. The marketing department has been ranked second nationally for student satisfaction, according to the latest National Student Survey (NSS). Journalism was rated equal second, complementary medicine was third and human resource management fourth. The university received special praise in the Government's recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Bedfordshire was commended for its "world-leading" research in Earth Systems and Environmental Science; Communications, Cultural and Media Studies, Social Work, Social Policy and Administration;Sport, Tourism and Leisure; English Language and Literature. It has also been recognised as "internationally excellent" in Business and Management Studies; and Computer Science and Informatics. As a result Government funding has more than doubled. Earlier this year Bedfordshire was awarded a £1.1 million grant to set up The Goldberg Centre, a major centre for social work research. The University is continually investing in its facilities and equipment - a massive £74 million is being ploughed into the Luton campus with work due to be complete by the 2010-2011 academic year. The investment includes brand new, £40 million en-suite student accommodation with 850 study bedrooms, as well as a new £34 million Campus Centre which will bring all student services under one roof. The Campus Centre will house a 240-seat lecture theatre, an exhibition space for displaying student work, informal learning spaces for students, the Students' Union (SU) and a bar, restaurant and café.
