Alison Hunt is a research student at the Earth Science Department at the Open University.

Alison is studying volcanoes in Mongolia to discover what the chemistry of the rocks tells us about how they formed. "It's amazing to think that lava on the Earth's surface can tell us about what our planet looks like hundreds of miles beneath our feet. Having the opportunity to travel the world and look at volcanoes is a dream come true".

She is involved in outreach projects for the Open University, taking rocks, fossils and microscopes into schools, teaching kids how the Earth works through hands on activities. She will be sharing her rocks at the Milton Keynes Science Festival as well as other hands on demonstrations, such as an exploding volcano and rock races.
