Dr. John Mason, a past president of the British Astronomical Association (BAA) and full member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), is a famous, and widely sought-after public speaker. From travelling around the world to observe solar eclipses and meteor showers, to making regular appearances on the Sky At Night, he is an enthusiastic and entertaining populariser of science, which can also be seen in the instrumental role he played in setting up the South Downs Planetarium & Science Centre at Chichester, Sussex, which was opened in 2002.
