Katie Evans

Lead Mechanical Engineer, NUKEM Ltd

Katie was awarded a distinction in her National Certificate of Mechatronics, subjects included Electrical and Electronic principles, Engineering Design, and Computer Aided Drawing (AUTOCAD). She went on to obtain a BEng degree with honours in Materials, Design and Manufacturing Engineering at Liverpool University in 2002. The degree was a combination of both mechanical and material engineering modules, which included Microstructure of Materials, Polymeric Materials, Engineering Drawing and Design, Mathematics and Mechanics of Solids and Machines with her final year thesis entitled 'The wettability of plasma treated Nylon - 6.6'. Katie is now studying a part-time post graduate MSc degree in Nuclear Engineering and Technology with the NTEC consortium of universities, registered at Manchester University. She started her career as a Trainee Engineer at Hiden Analytical, Warrington in 1996 before joining Marconi Communications in 2000 on a temporary contract as a Quality/Industrial Engineer. From here Katie joined Schlumberger and spent the subsequent 4 years working in oilfield services in Australia, Kuwait and Louisana before joining NUKEM Ltd in Oxfordshire as a Lead Mechanical Engineer in 2005. Her main duties include the preparation and checking of designs, calculations, technical specifications, reports and documentation required for design projects and tenders in the nuclear engineering industry.
