Mike HentyI reached the magical age a few years ago when you can 'retire'. I am still trying to find out what that means! I grew up amongst Midlands village life where I attended Grammar School. Following this I spent 35 years working in farming, milking cows, driving tractors, shearing sheep and mastering the art of farm management. After leaving farming in 1990 I found myself working at the Open University as a technician in Earth Sciences where I stayed until I retired. Between 1971 and 1978 I took an Open University degree which led me into part-time teaching, geology and badminton. Here I became a member of the Open University Geological Society (O.U.G.S) where I was Editor of the national newsletter and Chairman of the Society during the 1980's. I now fill my time by looking after my garden, walking in the plant nursery, helping to sell rocks, minerals, fossils and such like at shows and exhibitions, playing croquet, giving talks to various groups and trying to spread the word about geology, through the O.U.G.S and Bucks Earth Heritage Group.
