
Neville PunchardAn experienced bio-medical researcher, Neville joined the University of Luton in 1993 and is now the Head of the newly created Division of Science. Previously, he has held many posts, and was previously Senior Research Fellow at the Medical School at St Thomas' Hospital (now part of King's College), London. In addition to being the Head of Division, Neville currently teaches cell biology, genetics and immunology on the undergraduate programs, while making contributions to other modules. In his teaching he uses a mixture of lectures, tutorials, practicals and videos, supported by use of the internet.
With regards to his research interests, Neville has published widely in the fields of inflammation, immunology, biochemistry and cell biology, with a combined total of over 100 papers, books, book chapters and conference presentations, and has supervised to successful completion over 14 research students. His present research interests include molecular studies in inflammation.
Neville is active in both the internal (University) and external research community, being involved in: organisation of national and international conferences; reviewing of papers and grants, editorial roles and in various activities of scientific societies. For example, he is senior editor of the Journal of Inflammation, is on the editorial board of several other journals, and is actively involved in running the British Inflammation Research Association (http://www.biras.co.uk). At the University, Neville has been a member of both Faculty & University Research Boards, including that of the University Graduate school, and has played a significant role in organising and delivering post-graduate training and education within the University. As a senior academic, he is also active in the wider scientific community and undertakes quality assurance roles both within, and without, the University.
